The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (306)

Thank you for joining us today

Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with a holiday favorite the 1935 Harman-Ising short, Alias St. Nick, directed by Rudolph Ising.

This is the first appearance of the recurring character, Little Cheeser.

Before the start of our feature presentation, in case you are starting to get overwhelmed by the holidays - please take a moment and join ACME Eagle Hand Soap in watching another Rankin/ Bass production:

The story is set in Germany and all of the characters are necessarily Germans but for the most part it's only the evil characters who actually speak with German accents or have "German" mannerisms. (Tante Kringle is the only nice character who speaks with a German accent.) Metaphorically, the Burgermeister and his goons are Nazis, burning anything they consider nonconformist. The depictions of other characters, including Kris, Jessica, the little Kringles, and the children, are essentially English-speaking people.

As always, ACME wants you to join them in celebrating the holidays with your friends at The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour - the official soap of our nation's bald eagles. Remember if your bald eagle's talons are filthy, do we have a soap for you! Why join us in watching another Barbara Stanwych holiday classic, the 1940 comedy, Remember The Night, directed by Mitchell Leisen, written by Preston Sturges (the last script he wrote shot by another director,) and starring Barbara Stanwyck, Fred MacMurray, Beulah Bondi, Elizabeth Patterson and Sterling Holloway. This was the first film in which Barbara Stanwyck and Fred MacMurray worked together. They appeared in three other films: Double Indemnity, The Moonlighter, and There's Always Tomorrow. The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour would like you to join us in watching this fun movie, so push away from pile of gifts you are wrapping, or the cards you are writing and enjoy the film.

Preston Sturges was so upset at the cuts Mitchell Leisen made to his script for this film, both before and during production, that he vowed to direct his own from then on. Sturges hung around the set and became friends with Barbara Stanwyck. He promised to write a film just for her. That film turned out to be The Lady Eve.

If you need more time to wrap your gifts or just relax, why not continue to listen to The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour Rockin Soul Christmas Revue (Old School)
