Enid was on her way home from work today,

Stopped at the ACME liquor store
Picked up a pint of Smirnoff's
Drank it in the car on the way to the Shell station
Got a gallon of gas in a can
Drove home, doused everything in the house, torched it
Crossed the street to Estella's and watched it burn.

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (82)

Another page from the ACME Catalog -

Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with a Claude the Cat Looney Tunes cartoon, the 1960 Chuck Jones directed, Mouse Warming:

The cartoon is the final appearance of Claude the Cat in a solo cartoon.

(The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour is still on their vacation break this summer - this is a repeat broadcast from May of 2018.) The staff at ACME always listens to a lot of music on Pandora in our offices. Across a bunch of people's channels, this artist, Melody Gardot, keeps popping up. So the ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour would like you to join us in listening to a 2016 concert of Melody Gardot, in Switzerland.

Melody has had a tough struggle after her 2003 accident, after she was struck by a car while riding her bike (she suffered head and spinal injuries, and her pelvis was broken in two places.) She has pushed through and has been performing all over the world since then.

Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with the 1955 Bugs Bunny/ Daffy Duck Looney Tunes cartoon, Beanstalk Bunny:

Look for the scene of Elmer sticking corks in his ears and trying to get Bugs and Daffy out of his head by smoking a cigarette (only for Bugs and Daffy to crawl through the cigarette to blow the match out); it's sometimes edited out when the cartoon is shown on TV.

I didn't think my songs would become anthems for women. But I'm delighted. Women probably immediately feel compassion and relate to the lyrics. We can all learn a little something from each other, so whatever people can take and be inspired by where my music is concerned is great.

We've rushed back into the offices from our vacation to pay respect to the Queen of Soul. Please join us here at The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour in celebrating the life of the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Aretha Louise Franklin (March 25, 1942 – August 16, 2018) by listening to her music today.

The Obamas issued a joint statement expressing their feelings on her passing:

America has no royalty. But we do have a chance to earn something more enduring. Born in Memphis and raised in Detroit, Aretha Franklin grew up performing gospel songs in her father's congregation. For more than six decades since, every time she sang, we were all graced with a glimpse of the divine. Through her compositions and unmatched musicianship, Aretha helped define the American experience. In her voice, we could feel our history, all of it and in every shade—our power and our pain, our darkness and our light, our quest for redemption and our hard-won respect. She helped us feel more connected to each other, more hopeful, more human. And sometimes she helped us just forget about everything else and dance.

Aretha may have passed on to a better place, but the gift of her music remains to inspire us all. May the Queen of Soul rest in eternal peace. Michelle and I send our prayers and warmest sympathies to her family and all those moved by her song.

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (80)

Another page from the ACME Catalog -

Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the program with the 1964 Looney Tunes pairing of the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote in War And Pieces, directed by Chuck Jones.:

This was Chuck Jones' last Road Runner cartoon, and the last Chuck Jones-directed Warner Bros. cartoon to be released in the classic era.

(Original broadcast August 12, 2017 - show #28,) The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour wants to share with an amazing tribute album - the 2003 release, Dub Side Of The Moon, by the reggae group, Easy Star All-Stars. If you are not familiar with the group or some of their other tribute albums for the Beatles or Radiohead, here is a great way for you to dive into their mix. (And they apparently worked very hard to keep the Wizard of Oz sync, but I don't have enough dope for you to enjoy that.)

But wait there's more ... seven years later, in 2010, the group decided to revise their own tribute album and go one step further and create a dupstep reggae version of Dark Side of the Moon called Dubber Side of the Moon.

It may not be everyone taste but it's definitely an enjoyable ride

Oops

ACME doesn't like to talk about the President John F. Kennedy plastic-topped Lincoln Continental limousine line they designed. The car had three roof combinations, a rear seat that can be raised and lowered, retractable foot stands for Secret Service men, two two-way radio telephones, and a master control panel for power accessories.

There were just a few ordered and it was almost immediately discontinued after November 1963.

Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with a 1935 Buddy Looney Tunes cartoon, directed by Jack King, Buddy's Bug Hunt:

The cartoon has one of the earliest references to an 'Acme' product - it is seen in the dream sequence, look for the 'Acme Fly Paper'.

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour is taking a short vacation break this summer, (union rules insist that we actual let the staff out of the office now and then.) We are going to show some of the more popular shows from the past. Today the ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour is proud to sponsor today's concert, the famous 1964 T.A.M.I Show (Teenage Awards Music International.) Filmed over two night, The TAMI Show is one of the most incredible bills in Rock History, featuring the likes of Jan & Dean, The Beach Boys, the Rolling Stones, the Supremes, James Brown (in a career defining turn), Smokey Robinson and Leslie Gore (who was the headliner) among others (who all performed live.)

Highlights of this show were first presented on ABC late night TV in 1974, in a special hosted by Dick Clark with studio guests Smokey Robinson and Jan & Dean discussing the event. Jan Berry came up with the idea to ride a skateboard across Sunset Boulevard for the opening sequence of the film. Moreover, Berry also came up with the idea to carry a skateboard on stage in a guitar case.
