Ok, we're trying something different.
Every Thursday we're going to feature a favorite song, something about the song and a cover version of the song. Our first song is the 1977 ELO classic, Mr. Blue Skies -
The song plays during the opening credits of the 2017 movie Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 in what director James Gunn called "the most hugely insane shot I've ever done." Like the first film, the soundtrack is made up of '70s hits that Chris Pratt's character plays throughout on a Walkman.
Polyphonics is a great site that covers all things music - I highly recommend you take a deep dive into their catalogs of videos.
I chose an interesting cover version of the song, (Not Weezer's 2019 faithful cover of the song,) the re-interpretion of the song by Postmodern Jukebox, featuring Allison Young. (Don't spend too much time on the Postmodern Jukebox site, you might be there for a while.)
