ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (402)

Thank you for joining us today

Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with another Daffy Duck Looney Tunes cartoon, the 1966 A Squeak in the Deep, {co-starring Speedy Gonzales) directed by Robert McKimson.

By the time of this short, Daffy was known for being a greedy loco duck rather than just a daffy loony character.

Before the start of our feature presentation, the staff of The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour love the cantankerous comedy of Lewis Black:

All of our days are better listening to at least one rant by Lewis.

We've picked another entry from the excellent reference book, 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die by Steven Jay Schneider. Today's film is the controversial 1971 drama, A Clockwork Orange , directed by Stanley Kubrick, based on the dystopian Anthony Burgess novel, and starring Malcolm McDowell, Patrick Magee, Adrienne Corri, Miriam Karlin, Godfrey Quigley, Anthony Sharp, and Warren Clarke. When the novel was published in 1959, it was received to a mixture of acclaim and notoriety and was long believed unfilmable. The film was met with very diverse critical reviews and after it was cited as having inspired copycat acts of violence, the film was withdrawn from British cinemas at Kubrick's request, and it was also banned in several other countries. A Clockwork Orange is now considered a classic and is often found on greatest films list. (Bunkies, the film is still shocking with it's violent content - be forewarned.) I'm actually a little surprised that I found a version of the film online. So push away from the table, get comfortable and join us in watching A Clockwork Orange.

Korova Milk Bar is named after the Russian word for cow. Moloko (written on the wall) means milk. The bar's sculptures were based on the work of sculptor Allen Jones. Stanley Kubrick had the milk dispensers emptied, washed and refilled every hour, as the milk curdled under the studio lights. The chairs in the bar were the reupholstered and recycled chairs from the space station in Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.
