ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour Today (373)
Thank you for joining us today
Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with another Daffy Duck Merrie Melodies cartoon, the 1959 Apes of Wrath , (starring Bugs Bunny) and directed by Friz Freleng.
Due to Daffy's brief cameo at the end, this short marks the first time Bugs lost to Daffy in the end. Daffy would defeat Bugs in the end again in a Tang commercial in the 1960s.
Before the start of our feature presentation, the staff of The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour staff was thinking about yesterday's posting about Pink Floyd's unprecedented 303rd week on the US album chart. Given that, we looked up what was another Easy Star All-Stars cover album to listen to - here is a good one.
Its a beautiful re-imagining of an incredible album. we believe Bowie would be proud.
We've picked another entry from the excellent reference book, 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die by Steven Jay Schneider. Today's film is the 1967 Brazilian Cinema Novo drama, Entranced Earth, (AKA Terra em Transe), directed by Glauber Rocha, and starring Jardel Filho, Paulo Autran, José Lewgoy, and Glauber Rocha. Initially this controversial file was banned from being shown in Brazil for "tarnishing the image of Brazil" but after protests by both Brazilian and French filmmakers, it was allowed to be screened at Cannes and in Brazil by the Brazilian government. It debuted in the 1967 Cannes Film Festival where it won the FIPRESCI Award. It also won the Golden Leopard award at the Locarno International Film Festival in 1968. So please join us here at The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour and sit back, get comfortable and watch Terra em Transe.
Eldorado is a fictional country. It's entirely based on political and social issues of Brazil after 1964 while the country was under a military dictatorship that was over only in 1985.

ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour Today (372)
Thank you for joining us today
Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with another Daffy Duck Looney Tunes cartoon, the 1959 China Jones , (co-starring Porky Pig) and directed by Robert McKimson.
China Jones is a spoof of the 1952-55 TV series, China Smith, starring Dan Duryea. This short is one of many that has not aired on American television since the 1990s due to outdated racial stereotyping of East Asians that modern audiences would find offensive.
Before the start of our feature presentation, the staff of The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour staff came across a fun series of videos trying to explain a large number of subject in under 10 minutes or so. The episode we're going to watch today - uncovering common misconceptions -
So now you know.
We've picked another entry from the excellent reference book, 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die by Steven Jay Schneider. Today's film is the 1966 Czechoslovak New Wave comedy, Closely Watched Trains, (AKA Ostre sledované vlaky), directed by Jirà Menzel, and starring Václav Neckár. At the time, the film received very good reviews and was one of the best known Czech films, going on to win the Best Foreign Language Oscar in 1968. We don't want to tell you too much about the film other than to say it isone of those weird and wonderful films that you just know you’re not going to get out of your head for weeks to come. So please join us here at The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour and sit back, get comfortable and watch Closely Watched Trains.
As of 2022 the train station still stands, and in 2017 a museum was opened there to commemorate this film. It also still used as an active passenger train station.

ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour Today (371)
Thank you for joining us today
Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with another Daffy Duck Merrie Melodies cartoon, the 1958 Robin Hood Daffy , (co-starring Porky Pig) and directed by Chuck Jones.
This was the final Porky Pig short to be directed by Chuck Jones, as well as the last of Jones' Daffy and Porky parody shorts that began with the western-themed Drip-Along Daffy.
Before the start of our feature presentation, the staff of The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour staff has watched the greatest piece of editing executed and we want to share it with you -
This was so good, I think it can bring Freddie back.
We've picked another entry from the excellent reference book, 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die by Steven Jay Schneider. Today's film is the 1967 charming french musical, Les Demoiselles de Rochefort, (The Young Girls Of Rochefort), directed by Jacques Demy, and starring Catherine Deneuve, Françoise Dorléac, George Chakiris, Michel Piccoli, and guest starring, Gene Kelly and Danielle Darrieux. At the time, The Young Girls Of Rochefort did well at the box office. The classic homage to the Hollywood musical is considered one of the greatest musical ever produced. The film displays the director's unique and ever-present combination of melancholy and euphoria, American commercialism and French provincialism, and the curious relationship between chance and fate. So please join us here at The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour and sit back, get comfortable and watch The Young Girls Of Rochefort.
Jacques Demy originally thought of casting Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn as the twin sisters. Françoise Dorléac, Catherine Deneuve's actual sister, was tragically killed in a car accident at age 25 just three months after the film's release in France and almost a year before it was released in the U.S.

ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour Today (370)
Thank you for joining us today
Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with another Daffy Duck Merrie Melodies cartoon, the 1958 Don't Axe Me, (co-starring Elmer Fudd, and Barnyard Dawg) and directed by Robert McKimson.
This is the only time where Elmer Fudd is married; as all other cartoons depict Elmer (like other major characters) as a bachelor.
Before the start of our feature presentation, As you know, tomorrow the Academy Award Ceremonies are being held tomorrow, the staff of The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour saw this video quiz and were all over it. Why not try it our -
So how did you do? There was a part one, which we posted here.
We've picked another entry from the excellent reference book, 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die by Steven Jay Schneider. Today's film is the 1967 crime thriller, Point Blank, directed by John Boorman and starring Lee Marvin, Angie Dickinson, Keenan Wynn, and Carroll O'Connor.. At the time, Point Blank was the moderate hit, earning just over $9 million on it initial release. The film is now widely regarded as cult classic. So please join us here at The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour and sit back, get comfortable and watch Point Blank.
This was the first film shot at Alcatraz, the infamous prison which had been shut since 1963, only three years before the production. Two weeks in the abandoned prison facility required the services of 125 crew members. MGM agreed to pay $2,000 per day ($16,400 in 2021) to rent the prison and to pay all expenses to re-establish power, water, and heat necessary for the production.

ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour Today (369)
Thank you for joining us today
Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with another Daffy Duck Looney Tunes cartoon, the 1957 Show Biz Bugs, (co-starring Bugs Bunny,) and directed by Friz Freleng.
Show Biz Bugs portrays the modern interpretation of Daffy in a more sympathetic light: In this film, Daffy is a jealous and arrogant competitor to Bugs, but his shabby treatment by the theater management and audience is depicted as being unfairly out of proportion to the genuine talent he possesses.
Before the start of our feature presentation, the staff of The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour very tickled pink to watch two English men who don't quite know how to say no to doing a favor -
Don't worry, David and Martin are the best of friends.
We've picked another entry from the excellent reference book, 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die by Steven Jay Schneider. Today's film is the 1967 comedy, PlayTime, directed and starring Jacques Tati.. At the time, PlayTime was the most expensive film ever made in France and the film was a financial failure upon release but is now widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time. The plot of the film is secondary; characters and dialogue are given a backseat as we instead watch social situations. In working with wide images, audiences become active participants and observers and can scan entire frames and focus on a certain part of the created image. In abandoning a conventional narrative, Jacques Tati provides us with a meditative experience. The audience, along with his camera, wanders around Paris throughout the course of a full day, encountering various situations and people. So please join us here at The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour and sit back, get comfortable and watch PlayTime
The elaborate set of Tativille had its own roads, electrical systems and - in one of the office buildings - a fully working elevator. To cut production cost cardboard cut-outs were used as extras in the background. To give them life some human extras would interact with the cut-outs.
