The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (275)

Thank you for joining us today

Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with another Daffy Duck Looney Tunes cartoon, the 1938 What Price Porky (co-starring Porky Pig,) directed by Bob Clampett.

This is the first Daffy Duck cartoon directed by Bob Clampett. Also, it's the first time Bob Clampett directed a short without Chuck Jones or any assistant directors with him.

Before our feature presention,The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour would like you to join us in watching a heavyset, mind aged man be amusing -

I've been listening to a lot of Patton while I've been recuperating

We've picked another entry from the excellent reference book, 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die by Steven Jay Schneider. Today's film is Orson Welles' late studio film, the remarkable Touch of Evil, starring Charlton Heston, Janet Leigh, Joseph Calleia, Akim Tamiroff, Marlene Dietrich and Orson Welles. Initially dismissed by film critics, Touch of Evil found popularity among European audiences and won top awards at the 1958 Brussels World Film Festival. During the 1970s, its reputation was renewed and it is now widely regarded as one of Welles' best motion pictures and one of the best classic-era films noir. In 1998, Walter Murch, working from all available material, re-edited the film based on a famous 58 page memo Orson Welles wrote after seeing the studio re-edit of his film. The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour would like you to join us in watching this great film, Touch of Evil. So push away from the table, get comfortable and enjoy the film.

The opening scene took an entire night to get right, mainly because the actor playing the customs officer kept blowing his lines. It was beginning to get light on the horizon when Orson Welles made the final take of the night, saying to the cast, "All right, let's try it one more time." Then he looked at the actor and said, "If you forget your line this time, just move your lips and we'll dub it in later, but please, God do NOT say, 'I'm sorry, Mr. Welles!'" This is the take seen in the film.
