Axinomancy
An ancient means of determining guilt, involving balancing an ax on a post, and reading a list of names aloud. If the ax moved at a particular name, that person was deemed guilty. In another (equally strange) version, a marble was placed on a red-hot ax; the motion of the marble signaled guilt.

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (190)
Thank you for joining us today.
Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with another Bugs Bunny Looney Tunes cartoon (featuring Marvin the Martian), the 1952 The Hasty Hare, directed by Chuck Jones.
This is the first short where Marvin the Martian has its familiar nasal voice which would continue to be used permanently in subsequent appearances (his familiar nasal voice is actually based on the voice from the unseen emcee who says this one line "Shall we give it to him, folks?" from What's Cookin' Doc?).
Before the start of our feature presentation, after an exhaustive investigation, ACME Eagle Hand Soap can finally tell you why so many are not wearing masks:
Space aliens are taking over our minds. Join the resistance - say NO to space aliens!
We hope you are doing well with your self quarantines - the programming department of The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour have been vigorously scrubbing themselves with ACME Eagle Hand Soap - If your eagle's hands are dirty, we'll wash them clean! and sanitizing themselves for your protection. We are also engaged in social distancing - we are communicating with each other via Docker containers and messages in a bottle.
We've picked another entry from the excellent reference book, 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die by Steven Jay Schneider for today's feature. Today's choice - the 1948 film, Force of Evil from the blacklisted director Abraham Polonsky. Another in the list of seemly almost forgotten film noir movies, starring John Garfield (Jacob Julius Garfinkle). The film is an amazing and subversive critique of the American Capitalism system. So why not sit back and relax (find the most comfortable seat) get a snack (bar nuts anyone,) and a slug of scotch or two and join The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour in watching Force of Evil -
During Congressional hearings in Hollywood in 1951 Polonsky was called the 'most dangerous man in America' by Rep. Harold Velde. During the time he was blacklisted, Polonsky often wrote screenplays using a 'front'. He finally began writing again under his own name with Tell Them Willie Boy is Here, a pro-American Indian film made in 1969.

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (189)
Thank you for joining us today.
Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with another Bugs Bunny Looney Tunes cartoon (featuring Gossamer, but named Rudolph in this cartoon), the 1952 Water, Water Every Hare, directed by Chuck Jones.
The mad scientist in this short is patterned after Boris Karloff right down to the heavy eyebrows and Dr. Frankenstein riffs that made Karloff a household name in the 40's and 50's.
Before the start of our feature presentation ACME Eagle Hand Soap would like to bring you another From a Certified Young Person -
So kids, take it from a 'real kid', wear a mask, it's cool!

While we were reseaching movies the week before last, we came across the 1946 Henry Hathaway film, The Dark Corner. An almost forgotten film noir classic, starring Clifton Webb, William Bendix, Mark Stevens, and Lucille Ball(?) as the loyal secretary who saves her boss. So why not sit back and relax (find the most comfortable seat) get a snack (popcorn anyone,) and a beer or two and join The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour in watching The Dark Corner -
In later years, Lucille Ball was vocal about hating the experience of shooting The Dark Corner. The lion's share of her resentment was pointed at director Henry Hathaway, whose bullying reduced Ball to stuttering on set, at which point Hathaway accused her of being inebriated.

September 12, 1975 -
Wish You Were Here is the ninth studio album released by Pink Floyd, on this date. It is a moving tribute the their former bandmate Syd Barrett, who left the band several years earlier due to deteriorating mental health. Strange to believe, the album initially received mixed reviews; many critics found it not up-to-par with the band's previous release, Dark Side of the Moon. Today the album is generally agreed upon as one of the greatest albums ever released, having sold more than 15 million albums to date. But why not sit back and relax (find the most comfortable seat) get a snack (smoke 'em if you got 'em,) and a beer or two and join The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour in listening to Wish You Were Here -
The title track was a rare case of the Pink Floyd primary songwriters Roger Waters and David Gilmour mutually collaborating on a song - they rarely wrote together. Gilmour had the opening riff written and was playing it in the studio at a fast pace when Roger Waters heard it and asked him to play it slower. The song built from there, with the pair writing the music for the chorus and verses together, and Waters adding the lyrics.
In 2012, director John Edginton released a documentary named Pink Floyd: The Story of Wish You Were Here, featuring all four members of the band as well as other people who were involved in creating this masterpiece.

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (187)
Thank you for joining us today.
Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with another Bugs Bunny Merrie Melodies cartoon, the 1952 Foxy by Proxy, directed by Friz Freleng.
This cartoon is considered a remake to Of Fox and Hounds from 1940
Before the start of our feature presentation, ACME Eagle Hand Soap would like to bring all of you college students a message that bears repeating. -
Bunkies, may we speak, while on campus, wear your mask, stop going to frat parties, and wash your damn hands.

We've picked another entry from the excellent reference book, 1001 Movies You Must See Before You Die by Steven Jay Schneider for today's feature. Today's choice - the 1948 film, Letter from an Unknown Woman from the brilliant director Max Ophüls . His camera work seems to dance around his characters. Actor James Mason, who worked with Ophüls on two films, wrote a short poem about the director’s love for tracking shots and elaborate camera movements:
A shot that does not call for tracks
Is agony for poor old Max,
Who, separated from his dolly,
Is wrapped in deepest melancholy.
Once, when they took away his crane,
I thought he’d never smile again.
Please join ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour in watching the heartbreaking, A Letter from an Unknown Woman -
The film was adapted from the original Stefan Zweig novella by screenwriter Howard Koch. The film is mostly faithful to the book, though featuring minor divergences. The most noted divergence is a structural change: there is no duel in the original story, nor is there a character such as Johann. The "unknown woman" from the book never marries, but lives off a series of lovers who remain unnamed and mostly unintrusive.
