The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (30)

Another page from the ACME Catalog -

Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with the 1961 Bugs Bunny/ Wile E. Coyote Looney Tunes cartoon, Compressed Hare:

On Aug. 27, 1991, Epic Records released the debut album of the Seattle based group Pearl Jam, Ten, thrusting grunge, willingly or not, into the mainstream. The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour is remembering the anniversary of the release of the album by asking you to join us in listening to it again.

This is not so much trivia but band folklore - before Pearl Jam was called Pearl Jam, the band was called Mookie Blaylock. The album, Ten, was named after Blaylock’s jersey number.

We enjoyed listening to Ten so much here at ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour today that we'd like to share a bonus with you - here's the MTV Unplugged featuring Pearl Jam (in which they covered much of the album.)

The show has been seen as one of the best of the entire series.

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (29)

Another page from the ACME Catalog -

Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the evening with the 1961 Road Runner/ Wile E. Coyote Looney Tunes cartoon, Beep Prepared:

This cartoon received an Academy Award nomination as Best Animated Short for 1961. This was the only Oscar-nominated Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote cartoon.

With the help of the recently launched Ticket Master (allowing tickets to be sold over the phone), The Police sold out the 55,000 seat Shea Stadium for the August 18, 1983 stop on  their Synchronicity 83/84 tour so quickly that they were forced to open up the playing field for the audience. This sold them another 15,000 tickets, which made 15,000 more than the Beatles.

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour is remembering the anniversary of the Police concert by asking you to join us in listening to audio from the concert on that steamy night in August back in 1983.

"We'd like to thank the Beatles for lending us their stadium," Sting announced nearing the end of their explosive performance at Shea Stadium. This was the biggest rock concert at Shea Stadium since The Beatles first played there in 1965 and it marked the moment where the Police claimed The Beatles mantle and announced that they were the biggest band in the world.

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (28)

A couple of pages from the ACME Catalog -

Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the program with the 1964 Looney Tunes pairing of the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote in War And Pieces, directed by Chuck Jones.:

This was Chuck Jones' last Road Runner cartoon, and the last Chuck Jones-directed Warner Bros. cartoon to be released in the classic era.

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour wants to share with an amazing tribute album - the 2003 release, Dub Side Of The Moon, by the reggae group, Easy Star All-Stars. If you are not familiar with the group or some of their other tribute albums for the Beatles or Radiohead, here is a great way for you to dive into their mix. (And they apparently worked very hard to keep the Wizard of Oz sync, but I don't have enough dope for you to enjoy that.)

But wait there's more ... seven years later, in 2010, the group decided to revise their own tribute album and go one step further and create a dupstep reggae version of Dark Side of the Moon called Dubber Side of the Moon.

It may not be everyone taste but it's definitely an enjoyable ride

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour (27)

Another page from the ACME Catalog -

Before our feature presentation, ACME would like to start the program with the 1962 Looney Tunes pairing of the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote in Zoom at the Top, directed by Chuck Jones.:

During the title sequence of this cartoon, Wile E. is identified as Overconfidentii Vulgaris and the Road Runner as Disappearialis Quickius.

The ACME Eagle Hand Soap Radio Hour is proud to remember that on this date in 1972, Derek and the Dominos peaked at number ten on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart with the title track from Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs, (one of the greatest Eric Claptons' albums) nearly two years after its initial release.

So sit back, relax (smoke 'em, if you got 'em) and enjoy listening to the album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs.

It's hard to believe now but the album did not sell well at the time; Layla never even charted in the UK. The record company did very little to advertise the album, figuring any project with Clapton would get plenty of publicity. Disappointed by Layla’s lackluster sales and addicted to heroin, Clapton went into seclusion for two years.
